The dead woman has been identified as Deoranie Suknanan of Lot 4 Airy Hall Mahaicony.  Reports are that the woman was seated in the front seat of the bus driven by a relative  heading east on the northern side of the road when the driver lost control while negotiating a turn on the roadway. The woman was pinned in the front seat for several minutes as residents frantically sought to get her out. She was finally extricated from the wreckage but succumbed while receiving medical attention at the Fort Wellington Hospital. Meanwhile,  a female who was  the only other passenger in the mini bus BPP 7638 was also treated at the same hospital for injuries about her body. She was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for additional treatment. The driver of the minibus who is said to be the brother of the deceased woman is assisting the police with investigations into the fatal accident.

Police in a statement said that according to information received from the Subordinate Officer on duty on the date and time aforementioned, he  and other ranks were performing duties in the enquiries office when they heard a loud explosion and instantaneously saw  a huge  blaze to the front door of the building following which they immediately rushed and extinguished same with water.

Further checks disclosed that  the front door of the building was scorched and a partly burnt 5 gallon  bottle was at the front door. They made further checks around the building but no one was seen around the area.

No one was injured during the incident.

Investigations by the Guyana Police force and the Guyana Fire Service have commenced.
