A 60-year-old carpenter was riddled with bullets late Monday night by two armed bandits before his XR motorcycle was stolen, the Guyana Police Force has said.
The Police Force, in announcing that an investigation has been launched into the alleged robbery and murder, said the 60-year-old carpenter, Peter Gonsalves of Pere Street, Kitty, was shot dead on Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty, in front of a restaurant. The shooting took place around 21:45hrs.
The police said, based on information received, Gonsalves was proceeding along Garnett Street on his black and white XR Motorcycle (CJ 600) when he was attached by two men on a motorcycle. One of the two bandits, who was armed with a handgun, shot Gonsalves several times, causing him to fall to the ground.
“Further information revealed that after the victim was shot and fell to the ground he was released of his motorcycle by the man who was a pillion rider on the other motor cycle who mounted same and made good his escape,” the police reported. The XR motorcycle is valued at $450, 000.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), were subsequently summoned. Upon their arrival on the scene, they pronounced Gonsalves dead. The body was afterward escorted to the Lyken Funeral Home where it awaits PME.
No arrest has been made thus far. Investigations are continuing, the police said.
