DPI – Pregnant women who have tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) will soon be housed at the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention at Liliendaal as the Ministry of Health loos to open another section of the facility.
Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony during his COVID-19 update on Thursday said that the establishment of a maternity unit at the Liliendaal facility will complement that which exists at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
“We’re looking at opening up another section of the Ocean View Facility, so that in the future we can move in maternity cases. As it is right now, we don’t have that capability at Ocean View, but we are working to put that in place. We, also, would have to build up the laboratory and diagnostic capacity of Ocean View, so, that has been an ongoing effort,” Dr. Anthony said.
The Minister assured that ongoing works at the Liliendaal hospital would not impede the management of patients currently in ICU care.
“So far, everything is going smoothly, most of the patients with COVID-19 have already been transferred, we have been able to put in all the requisite things; medical gas, put in all the ICU beds, monitors, ventilators and so forth,” he said.
There are currently 14 patients at the ICU facility which became fully operational last Friday.
