” Exercise increased caution in Guyana due to crime,” the Department of State travel advisory read.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Guyana due to COVID-19.

Guyana has resumed most transportation options, (including airport operations and re-opening of borders) and business operations. Other improved conditions have been reported within Guyana. “Violent crime, such as armed robbery and murder, is common. Local police lack the resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents.”

Guyana has recorded 147 Covid-19 deaths this far and confirmed cases have topped over 5000. Despite this situation government has relaxed the curfew and has also reopened schools and the airports.

Meanwhile,  CNBC reported Monday that the U.S. continues to notch record Covid-19 infections, with the national seven-day average of daily new cases hitting 170,855 on Sunday, according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. It’s possible the numbers will get a little more opaque heading into the holiday weekend. Local health outposts typically pause reporting for national holidays, which could lead to slight backlogs.
