The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Go-Invest and the 658 Guyana Holdings, on Monday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a US$90M Hilton Hotel at McDoom on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD).

The nine-storey, upscale hotel project is expected to be completed within a period of two years.

“The project will consist of 161 room Hilton Garden Inn with programming of a further 128 suites. The building will be conveniently located next to the Houston and McDoom district and will feature various onsite dining options, conference facilities, a pool, and a 24-hour fitness facility,” the Tourism Ministry said in a statement Monday evening.

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, who was among signatories, said investors are responding positively to the ministry’s Request for Proposals. According to her, the overwhelming response by investors is clear indication of their confidence in Guyana. She noted that the signing was the first of several agreements to be inked for major hotel development in Guyana.

Representing 658 Guyana Holdings at the signing ceremony was Lars Mangal, Chairman and CEO of TOTALTEC. “This will be a great addition to Guyana, boosting the development of local capacity in support of its indigenous oil and gas sector along with offering additional room capacity to serve the tourism sector,” said Lars Mangal
