… block and topographic survey to begin soon
The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) will soon begin on a block and topographic survey of more than 130 acres of land at Poke Bridge, Lethem, Region Nine with the aim of developing a new 800 lot housing scheme.
The Ministry of Housing in a statement said that work is expected to begin on November 20 by CH&PA’s surveyor Shaquelle Mayers. Upon completion of the survey, CH&PA will proceed with the design and layout of the scheme which will yield some 800 lots.
“2021 will be an exciting year for the housing sector, we are looking to start allocation in 2021, and when we make an allocation, citizens can look forward to being allocated lot in schemes with all the necessary infrastructure,” Minister of Housing Collin Croal said.
According to Croal, the initiative is part of his Ministry’s commitment to providing adequate and affordable housing for all Guyanese. Simultaneously, the Minister said the Ministry of Housing is working along with other state agencies for the acquisition of lands to realize the Government’s vision of providing 50,000 house lots over the next five years.
The Minister said that the new project will benefit residents of the Region as it will not only build village economies but create employment opportunities.
“The housing and construction sector can further strengthen village economies. The opening of new housing development would mean people will be given house lots and can start construction,” Minister Croal said following a visit to the development site Saturday. The Minister was accompanied by Lethem’s Mayor, John Macedo; Regional Chairman, Brian Allicock and Regional Member of Parliament (MP) Alister Charlie.
Meanwhile, residents of Region Nine were informed of the Government’s plan to reintroduce a vibrant hinterland housing project in 2021. This program, the Minister said, will ensure that vulnerable families in hinterland regions are adequately housed.
