Baramita housewife collapses, dies on journey to shop

The Guyana Police Force is investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman of Golden City Backdam, Baramita, North West District (Barima- Waini) Region who collapsed on her way to a grocery store Sunday.

According to reports, the dead woman, Vanessa Davis, a housewife/ miner and her reputed husband Tishon Thomas were heading to purchase food supplies when she collapsed on the journey. The incident occurred just after 17:00h.

Thomas, 21, said he left home for work at around 09:50h and returned at about 17:00h and left shortly thereafter with Davis and their two children ages 6 years and 8 months, to purchase food supplies.

He recalled that on their journey, Davis complained of a severe headache and shortness of breath before collapsing. He said the mother of two was also frothing.

Davis was picked up by a relative while Thomas sought transportation to take her to the hospital.

Thomas made a report to the Baramita Police Station on Monday at about 07:45h and Davis’ body was escorted to the Baramita Health Centre where she was pronounced dead at about 11:00h by a resident Medex.

The woman’s body will be transported to Port Kaituma Mortuary for storage and a post mortem examination.
