Labourer chopped, robbed of $87,000 at Parika

…suspect arrested
A 30-year-old labourer was on Sunday chopped and robbed of $87,000 at Parika Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

The victim, Jerome Samuels of the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, was imbibing when the suspect approached him, armed with a cutlass and demanded his haversack which contained the money.

After handing over the bag to the suspect, Samuels was chopped to his left hand and the suspect made good his escape on foot in the northern direction.
Samuels reported the matter to the police and was thereafter escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was treated and sent away.

The suspect, 30, who was questioned by Police denied being involved in the robbery. He was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
