35-year-old miner shot at Iyana Backdam

A 35-year-old miner of Moruca, Barima-Waini (Region One) is currently under police guard after being shot in his right thigh.
According to reports, the miner, Paul Bacchus was at a shop located at the Iyana Backdam, Region One at around 18:30h where he made a phone call to his relatives. While on the call, a group of persons who were also at the said shop, imbibing and playing music loudly, were disturbing Bacchus.

Bacchus asked the persons to lower the volume of the music being played so that he could finish his call. The imbibing persons refused and the miner was verbally abused.
The miner said that he left the shop and went to urinate after which he heard an explosion which sounded like a gun shot. He attempted to run but discovered he could not do so. It was then he realized that his right thigh was shot. He collapsed and lost consciousness.

Shortly thereafter, Bacchus said he regained consciousness and a friend informed him that a flight was chartered for him to secure medical attention.
Police investigation is currently ongoing.
