Man critical after hit-and-run crash

A man is in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital following a hit-and-run accident on the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara Tuesday night.

In a press release police said investigation has commenced into accident which involving a male East Indian pedestrian, name and address unknown, and a burgundy Toyota Primo, registration number unknown.

Enquiries disclosed that the pedestrian was walking in the corner of Success Public Road on the northern side of the northern  carriageway proceeding east when he was struck down by the burgundy Toyota Primo which was proceeding east along the said side of the road at a fast rate of speed.

According to police, as a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface where he suffered injuries about his body.  The injured pedestrian was later picked up by paramedics in an unconscious condition and escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted a patient in the High Dependency Unit suffering from head injuries.  His condition is regarded  as critical.
