Dear Editor

We must not fall into a never-ending cycle of violence and murder.  Neither a bruise for a bruise nor an eye for an eye, nor a hand for a hand, nor a wound for a wound, nor a  life for a life will bring true justice.

Urgent Action Needed Against Corruption and State Capture

My heart goes out to all who feel anger and pain at the events of the last few days.   I  plead with all to refrain from any more acts of aggression.  Our desire for retribution and retaliation will never bring true and lasting peace.  Violence in response to violence only leads to further violence.  Revenge will only fan the flames of hatred.

Every person is made in the image of God.  We must do all we can to cultivate and maintain respect for each and every life.  Therefore, while I support those who seek justice through peaceful demonstration, we must be careful that we do not get carried away and violate the very principles of love and respect we are demanding be shown to us.

Once again, I call for peace,  justice and a national healing process that help us recover from past traumas and live more peaceful lives.  We must quickly and sincerely address the root causes of division and violence in our society.

Regards

Fr. Carl Philadelphia
