– says decision in keeping with PPP/C’s mandate to serve all Guyanese

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal said the changes being made at his Ministry are in keeping with the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Government’s mandate of providing the best services to all Guyanese.

His comments came in wake of reports that the contract of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) Lelon Saul was terminated on Tuesday.  Minister Croal confirmed that Saul received his one-month notice of termination, in keeping with his contract.

“We have looked at the entire ministry, and Central Housing plays an important aspect in our housing drive and to ensure that we have delivery of more homes and house lots across the country,” Minister Croal told the Department of Public Information (DPI).

He said after reviewing what has been happening at the agency in recent years, from the ministry level, “we believe we need to change the leadership and have a different focus and to have performance.” “A decision was taken in keeping with the contract, he has been relieved of that responsibility,”.

The minister said the name of the new CEO will be announced in due course after the necessary processes have been completed. The Central Housing and Planning Authority has a mandate of addressing the housing needs of all Guyanese. The Agency, which is under the purview of the Ministry Housing and Water has the primary objectives of divestment of Government land to eligible Guyanese for residential use, development of housing schemes and regularization and upgrade of squatter settlements, the orderly and progressive development of Land, Cities, Towns, Urban and Rural areas, and granting security of tenure, (Transports and Certificates of Title to Land). It also provides service (access roads, internal road networks, water distribution networks, drainage, electricity) and collaborates with stakeholders for the development of sustainable communities.
