Millions dollars on stocks went up in flames Wednesday afternoon whe  fire destroyed the Desinco Trading and Home Décor premises located on Sheriff Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.

Reports are that the fire of unknown origin started just around 13.30 hrs in the upper flat of the two-story building and quickly ripped through two other buildings.

From an eyewitnesses account, the fire seemed to be under control in the initial stages but after the fire tenders went dry, the wind added fuel to the smoking building before more fire tenders could have arrived with water to attend to the blaze.
When Village Voice arrived on the scene firefighters were battling the blaze while workers and other onlookers stood in shock at the unfolding seen.

Managing Director of the business, Frank De Abreu, said in an invited comment that the building is insured and that he cannot say what is the value of the loss.

Incidentally Wednesday’s fire is the second encounter De Abreu has had with the Guyana Fire Service. The first was a few years ago when he almost lost his life in an accident involving a fire tender at the junction of Irving and Lamaha Streets.
