Linden, Guyana: June 17th, 20 — Scores of Lindeners came out today to insist that GECOM count only valid votes. In contention are the thousands of irregular ballots cast in favour of the opposition People’s Progressive Party Civic, allowing them a significant projected lead in the Guyana 2020 national elections.

Protestors voiced their concern about the suggestion that GECOM should determine the winner of the 2020 presidential elections based on all ballots recounted, whether or not they were proven to be invalid. The governing APNU-AFC party claims to have provided proof of thousands of names of dead and migrated citizens identified as voting in the recent contentious elections.

The People’s Progressive Party Civic, while not arguing the nonexistence of ‘irregularities’, insists that the government APNU-AFC party must take those challenges to court via elections petition.

The Linden supporters are the first to launch mass protest activity over these issues and there is growing concern nationally that a declaration based on the counting of fraudulent votes will lead to boycotts, protests and general unrest throughout the country.
