March is Women’s History Month. Guyana’s Women & Gender Equality Commission is observing the month with an exhibition of women who have been honoured by the Commission over the years for their sterling contributions to life and livelihood in Guyana.  Women from all sectors have been honoured.

The exhibition is housed at the National Gallery, Castellani House, Vlissingen Road Georgetown and run from March 1st to the 31st 2024. Students and history buffs and encouraged to visit the exhibition.

The Women & Gender Equality Commission is a constitutional body that forms part of Guyana’s human rights machinery.  Its mandate is stated in Article 212g of the Constitution of Guyana.  The Constitution began its work in 2010.

Part of the mission of the Commission is to promote gender mainstreaming in all policies and programmes, promote the ending of all forms discrimination against women and promote the value of achieving gender equality in Guyana.
