The National COVID-19 Task Force Secretariat (NCTFS) has removed special measures for Region One which has the second-highest number of recorded COVID-19 infections after Region Four. Special measures have also been removed for Region Nine while Region Seven is the only Region that now holds special restrictive measures.

The updated COVID-19 Emergency Measures for December 1 to December 31, 2020 have been released and the Village Voice News perused the document for the changes therein.

As of November 30, Region One (Barima-Waini) has recorded 848 COVID-19 positive cases. This is significantly higher than that of Region Two– 125; Region Three – 402; Region Five – 40; Region Six – 246; Region Seven – 471; Region Eight – 180; Region Nine -379 and Region Ten – 256.

Specific measures were previously put in place for Regions One and Nine while concerns were high for the regions which share borders with Venezuela and Brazil respectively. However, though Region Nine has managed to keep its numbers low, Region One is now second to Region Four which recorded a total of 2,459 cases as of November. It should be noted that these are not the numbers of active positive cases.
Even so, these two regions have been dropped from under the umbrella of special restrictive measures. Now, for Region Seven, non-essential travel in or out the region is restricted from December 1-31, 2020. Travel shall only be permitted where it is connected with an essential service.

Added to this, gatherings shall not exceed fiver persons; all Government buildings, landings and transportation must be sanitised often and the joint services is expected to mobilise and coordinate quarantines and isolation sites, materials provided to these sites and the various screening and testing checkpoints among other requirements.
