The Opposition, A Partnerhsip of National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) last week accused the Agriculture Ministry and ministry officials of engaging in unethical practices in the accusition and distribution of chicken. The ministry has since fired back, via a statement, denying the cliam and threatened to sue the Opposition if the alleagtion is not withdrawn.  The opposition has since countered with a statement, making known “the Agriculture Minister’s response to the Opposition exposing his alleged involvement in the smuggling of chicken is ridiculous.”

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha

OPPOSITION RESPONDS TO AGRICULTURE MINISTER’S FRAIL ATTEMPT TO COVER UP SMUGGLING OF CHICKEN

The Agriculture Minister’s response to the Opposition exposing his alleged involvement in the smuggling of chicken is ridiculous. The letter the Minister produced from the Guyana Livestock Development Authority does little to refute that there was smuggling of chicken.

The Minister must publicly explain why he nor his Ministry did not inform the nation about the purported shortage of chicken before our disclosure yesterday? He must also explain why were vehicles with license number GAE 5137, which had 36,000 pounds of chicken, and GAE 6041, which had 22,000 pounds, held at Whim Police Station without any documentation permitting the importation?

Could the Minister enlighten the nation who issued the permission to these two vehicles to import the chicken and could he publish an un-fabricated copy of the said permission?
