Hon. Amanza Walton-Desir Launches ‘Essequibo Is We Own’ Awareness School Tour in Linden

In an effort to foster national pride and educate the youth on the Guyana/Venezuela controversy, Hon. Amanza Walton-Desir, M.P, and Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs has initiated the “Essequibo Is We Own” Awareness School Tour. The tour commenced in her hometown of Linden, visiting Mackenzie High School and Wismar Christianburg Secondary Multilateral School.

The tour aims to empower young minds with accurate information and historical context regarding Venezuela’s illegal claim to Essequibo. During the visits, students engaged in singing national songs and posed thought-provoking questions, demonstrating a keen interest in the subject and a desire for advocacy.

Hon. Walton-Desir expressed her pleasure in interacting with the students, noting the importance of equipping the youth with knowledge about this critical national issue. The tour is seen as a vital step in ensuring that young Guyanese understand and take pride in their country’s history and territorial integrity.

The message “Essequibo Is We Own” resonated strongly during the tour, with an emphasis on continuing to amplify this message. Hon. Walton-Desir encouraged the sharing of this knowledge, stressing the importance of widespread awareness among the youth. The initiative is not just an educational campaign but also a movement to instill a sense of national identity and pride in the future generations of Guyana.
