A 20-year-old Guyanese author and final year International Relations (IR) student of the University of Guyana, Cardel Hunte, is on the move to motivate and encourage persons to continue the journey of life and purse their divine calling, as he launches his first book titled “I Dare Me.”
The book, which comprises 14 chapters and took approximately a year and a half to complete, covers various topics including goal achievment, purpose and the author’s life experience.
In an interview with Village Voice News, Hunte explained that the idea of the book came when he realized his life’s purpose.
“I realized my purpose in life is to help others find and achieve their own purpose. I would write pieces of poetry and songs with related themes of purpose finding and general motivation,” he said.
The young author said that the idea of getting his messages of hope across through a book was a phenomenal journey not withstanding the challenges he encountered in the process.
Hunte told Village Voice News that the creation of his book seemed unrealistic and frightening at times because he was not familiar with the process of writing and publishing a book.
“Not being familiar with the process of writing a book and the scary thought of if anyone would read it, once completed, kind of held me back a bit from getting the book done at an earlier time,” Hunte explained.
Preparation
According to Hunte, he first had to gather all his thoughts he wanted to voice through the book, think about the audience and determine the best way to articulate his thoughts.
“I thought of my own life and how I got closer to fulfilling my dreams and how I overcame trials in order to be the person I am today. And the answer was right there. I Dared myself!”
Hunte said: “Preparing for this project, I had to do quite a bit of information gathering. I found myself visiting psychology websites to have a deeper understanding of the human mind, behaviour and potential,” he posited.
As the author reflected on his life, he said the vision of the book got clearer and clearer and his aim was not just to motivate, inspire and create an introspective piece, but to link purpose, destiny, the word of God, the ways of life and self-development into one experience.
“When I got to a point where I believed there was no more I could say, I knew I was finished writing and it was time to test the message. The responses I received were great and truly believed something great was going to happen,” the young author told Village Voice News.
His words of advice to potential writers who intend to publish a book are to “Find your audience, develop your message and most of all believe in what you have to say! It’s definitely not Impossible, you don’t require experience to express your thoughts or share your story.”
