Georgetown, Guyana – October 25, 2023 – A delegation of prominent individuals is set to visit Guyana to investigate allegations of racial discrimination and human rights violations. This fact-finding mission aims to shed light on these claims and foster a more equitable future.

In August 2021, a delegation from the United States attended the Socio-Economic Emancipation 2021 conference in Guyana. During their visit, they met with President Irfaan Ali and other officials, hoping to support the President’s vision of “One Guyana.”

However, recent concerns have arisen following the ‘Washington Conference on Guyana.’ Allegations of discrimination, marginalization, and displacement were raised during a meeting with members of the United States Congressional Black Caucus, originating from Guyanese opposition Members of Parliament and Conference Delegates.

In response to these allegations, a delegation consisting of State Legislators, civil rights activists, and entrepreneurs will conduct a high-level, fact-finding mission in Guyana. They aim to assess the validity of these claims.

According to a statement by the delegation, “In a world where equality and justice are paramount, we are committed to uncovering the reality behind these allegations.”

The delegation’s mission is rooted in a belief in fundamental rights and dignity for all individuals, regardless of their background. Their goal is to collect comprehensive and reliable information by engaging with local communities, organizations, and government officials.

The delegation’s findings will be compiled and presented to relevant authorities, including the Biden Administration, the United States Congress, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the US State Department.

As preparations for the journey continue, the delegation calls on stakeholders in Guyana and worldwide to support their efforts. Together, they aim to champion the cause of equality and human rights for all.

The mission will be led by the Hon. Dee Dawkins-Haigler, President & Founder of Organization World Leaders and former Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, and Rep. John King III (SC), Former Chair of the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus.

This mission represents an effort to address pressing issues and promote transparency and accountability in the pursuit of a fair and just society.
