Freddie  contempt for People of African descent

Dear Editor,

Freddie Kissoon`s column of November 18, 2020 in Kaieteur News has a screaming headline: The reasons CARICOM Prime Ministers rejected IDPAD`s (sic) nonsense.  It caused me to read the column in search of what the PMs said, thinking that they had broken their silence. Alas, it was just another of Freddie`s columns, devoid of fact but rifled with his speculations and imaginations. How could his column, devoid of any pronouncement by the PMs, carry such a caption?

I had previously highlighted Freddie`s diatribes, which he attempts to past off on the public as fact based and analytical. His column of November 18,2020 is no different.

Freddie contends that in my post elections writings, I never explained why the PMs did not respond to me. In that regard, he is either professing knowledge of the PMs communicating with me, on the matter; or he expects me to be as speculative and imaginary as he is in his explanation as to why they had not responded. At best his explanation is baseless conjecture. The PMs did not communicate with me on the matter. I therefore should not be expected to explain why they had not responded.

He further descends into his usual contempt for the People of African Descent by suggesting that the persons who gathered and crafted the Petition were not of their own mind and were somehow goded by the proteges and descendants of Burnham to craft the “nonsense” for a Petition. In that excursion, he also referred to the trial of Arnold Rampersaud, for murder and incorrectly described the nameless victim as a Policeman, when in fact the victim was an army officer by the name of Henry. That the victim was nameless; and wrongly associated reflect the degree of importance and attention attached to the victim, a black life, in the face of a trial occasioned by his murder. For some, all that mattered was the claim of trumped-up charges against Rampersaud. Henry`s life is of no concern or value.

By not recognizing that elections in Guyana is an occasion, an acute moment of Guyana`s chronic ethnic problem, Freddie has located himself amongst those who through denial contribute to perpetuating the problem, rather than searching for solutions. The CARICOM leaders may have unwittingly found themselves in that group of fiddlers while Rome burned as it is, even now.

Freddie has now become the ultimate proponent of the Rule of Law and may have forgotten his tyre burning exercises, at UG`s gate, in defiance of Police orders.

Yours truly,
Vincent Alexander
