Former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine Attends India Independence Day Ceremony at Red Fort, Delhi, India

Former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine had the privilege to attend the India Independence Day Ceremony, held at the iconic Red Fort in Delhi, India. This event, held every year on 15th August commemorates India’s independence from British rule and marks an important milestone in the country’s history.

In extending heartfelt greetings to the Government and People of India on its 77th anniversary of independence, Narine said apart from the joy he felt participating in such an event, his visit also underscores his interest in promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity, across nations and people.

The former Mayor of Georgetown is among 10 Guyanese selected for the twenty-five day-long 66th Know India Programme (KIP) organised by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India.

This programme is organised for Persons of Indian Origin/Indian Diaspora youth between the ages of 18 to 30, from Girmitiya countries (e.g. Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, South Africa and Jamaica).
