Port Kaituma man dies in mining pit accident at Arena Backdam

A 26-year-old miner was on Sunday killed after a mining pit caved in and buried him at Arena Backdam, North West District (Barima- Waini).

Dead is Erroll ‘Tushi’ Ramitt of Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District. According to reports, at about 14:15h on Sunday, Ramitt was in the mining operating a marrock engine when a piece of land slid and covered him.

His colleagues immediately dug through the earth for about an hour before being able to reach him. He was found motionless.
Police were summoned and Ramitt’s body was transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The deceased’s body is currently at the Port Kaituma Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
