…as two more persons test positive for the virus

A businessman of Bartica on Thursday died at the Georgetown Public Hospital from the dreaded COVID-19 disease.
Thirty-four-year-old Abdool Khan was said to be asthmatic. He was a patient at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), at the GPHC, where he died. Meanwhile, the number of persons testing positive for the novel coronavirus continues to climbs as two more cases were confirmed Thursday. This takes the total to 250,” the Department of Public Information stated.
Meanwhile, the Regional Health Officer for Region Seven has confirmed the first COVID-related death for the township of Bartica. The 34-year-old has become the 14th person to succumb to the virus. The Ministry of Public Health is also reporting another recovery taking that total to 117. There are currently 120 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana, 16 persons in institutional quarantine and two patients in the COVID-19 ICU. To date, 2,668 tests have been conducted with 2,418 of those being negative. Persons are again reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out. Globally, as of July 2, 2020, the WHO is reporting that confirmed cases stand at 10,533,779 with 512,842 deaths. While in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 5,317,792 with a total of 252,340 deaths.
