‘Rasta’ attacks, robs Corentyne man of Samsung phone and cash

A No.58 Village man, known only as ‘Rasta’ was on Monday arrested by police for allegedly robbing a 21-year-old man on Sunday at No. 58 Village’s First Street, Backdam, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six).

The victim, Eric ‘Mikey’ Haripersaud of No. 58 Village Corentyne, was relieved of a Samsung Galaxy S5 without a sim valued at $28,000 and $15,000.
According to a police report, Haripersaud had just left a birthday party at about 21:00h when he was attacked by ‘Rasta’ who held a cutlass to the left side of his neck. After stripping Haripersaud of his phone and money, ‘Rasta’ cut the victim’s neck with the said cutlass. Haripersaud, in self-defence picked up a piece of wood but ‘Rasta’ fled the scene.

The young man raised an alarn and was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away. A report was made to the Springlands Police Station.

Meanwhile, Police said that at about 01:30h Monday the allegation was put to ‘Rasta’ and his home searched. The items were not found. Other persons were contacted and questioned but no useful information was forthcoming.
Rasta remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
