28-year-old Abdul Straker of Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown is now dead and five others are hospitalized after a driver lost control of a pick-up and crashed on the Mabura trail in the vicinity of Marian Hill, Upper Demerara River, on Friday.
Police headquarters reported that Straker was in the vehicle with Winton Daniels, a 28-year-old of Mocha Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara; Keswin Howes, a 23-year-old of Providence, EBD; Robin McKenzie, a 29-year-old of Robb Street, Bourda; Kevin James, a 29-year-old of Robb Street, Bourda while Kenrick Brathwaite, a 28-year-old of Mocha, was the driver of PRR 4027.
According to the Police, Brathwaite was speeding on the trail and, while negotiating a bend, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which turned ‘turtle’ and came to a halt on the eastern side of the trail.
As a result, the driver and the five occupants received injuries and were picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Straker died while receiving medical attention.
The driver and the four other occupants were treated and admitted to the hospital.
