Later on Monday, at about 11:00 hrs, they were heading to UNAMCO Road, Upper Berbice River, when they stopped in Linden for fuel and food. When they arrived in Ituni at around 15:30 hrs, they made another stop at Rankin Shop to get supplies and consume a bottle of El Dorado 5-year-old rum.

After drinking the bottle of rum, they continued their journey but decided to stop at Kamakabra Creek. Patrick Lord, who later died, was swimming near a Koker, but his brother and co-workers observed that he failed to surface and started to look for him in the water.

They frantically searched for about ten minutes, after which Patrick’s brother Paul Lord felt him under the water and pulled him out. They rushed him to the Ituni Health Centre, where a Medic checked him before transferring him to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Dr Stephen pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body is at a funeral parlour awaiting a Post Mortem Examination. Investigations are ongoing.
