She shared with us that, “as Coach I believe that students have different learning abilities hence my decision to join the STEMGuyana Team.”  Teacher Dawn went on to share that managing the Queenstown learning Pod and teaching Science, English, & Mathematics and facilitating the learning of Coding and Robotics continues to be a source of great motivation for her.

Ms Dawn Thomas is especially proud of her pod’s participation in the IYRC robotics competition and she shared that she feels tremendous pride in their performance for which they were awarded a bronze medal.

“I continue to monitor and observe the improved educational growth of my students and while there have been challenges like unreliable internet service, I was able to defeat the odds by finding solutions so that learning could still take place”

Teacher Dawn shared that in addition to strengthening their maths, english and science skills, her students are now engaged in writing and uploading stories on their pod website. “Who would believe that students from region 2 would have access to coding, robotics, international competition and building websites?  I am constantly amazed”, stated Ms Thomas.

As she looks forward to a new year of investment in the lives of her students, Ms Thomas shared that she is guided by the quote of Benjamin Franklin who said, “An investment in Knowledge pays the best interest.”
