The A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) said the withdrawal of the subvention from International Decade for People of African Descent Assembly – Guyana (IDPADA-G) is vindictive.

According to the coalition, ever since Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, who is accused of bribery and corruption began to attack IDPADA-G, it was obvious that his usual vindictiveness will emanate from one of the tangled webs he weaves.

“While purporting to be building ‘one Guyana’ Jagdeo and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) have withheld the subvention to this organization that is involved in the empowerment of African Guyanese.”

At the same time the Opposition is calling on the PPP regime to release the subvention to IDPADA-G and allow them to continue their work. “The regime at this point should be focused on having a credible international investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption against Jagdeo.”

Last month the IDPADA-G did not receive the subvention. Chairman of the organisation, Vincent Alexander told Kaieteur News that whilst he sees the delay as a “non-disbursement” of funds, the operation of the secretariat assesses its response to the challenges of funding.

IDPADA-G was established in December 2017, in response to the United Nations (UN) International Decade For People of African Descent, with the Mission to:

“1) Advocate at the national level for policies and programmes that advance the interests and condition of Guyanese of African Descent in the five Response Areas of Economy, Employment, Education, Equity/Equality and Expiation.

2) Provide guidance and support to member organizations for developing and undertaking projects that respond to the needs of Guyanese of African Descent.

3) Provide capacity building and organisational support to member organizations and the wider African Guyanese community”
