The bus is expected to transport some 40 children.
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is continuing the A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) coalition government’s 5B Programme- buses, books, bicycles, boats and breakfast- which they dismantled on their return to office in August 2020. Bit by bit components of the programme are being reintroduced.
Recently it was the Breakfast programme. The government has announced that students will be provided textbooks.
The Alliance for Change (AFC), in a statement last month, made known the party looks forward to the full resumption of the 5B Programme and recalled that free textbooks delivery to school children took place prior to the PPP/C taking government in 1992.
As part of the People’s National Congress government’s education policy, education was made free from nursery to university and became right as enshrined at Article 27 in the Constitution of Guyana. Students were given free exercise books, textbooks, meals, transportation, and for a short time, uniform material produced by the local Sanata Textile Mill.
