In making the announcement, the Health Ministry explained that the latest fatalities are a 55-year-old male and a 67-year-old male, both of whom were from Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica). Both persons died while receiving care at a medical facility.
As of Monday, there were 3,188 confirmed cases of the virus in the country of which 1,216 are still active. Based on stats provided by the Health Ministry, 14 persons are in the COVID-19 ICU while 975 persons are in home isolation and another 137 person in institutional isolation.
The main Opposition – the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Coalition – has said that the spike in COVID-19 cases is as a result of the poor handling of the pandemic by the Government.
