Region Eight Gets Paraprofessional Social Services Course

Fellow Teachers, today we commence the start of a brand-new academic school year. This beginning has always been an exciting one for all of us over the years, simply because after eight (8) weeks, we’re energised, resolved, refocused, and rearing with energies to engage our learners and to instill in them the right attitudes and life skills which acts as a guide toward making them good citizens who will be capable of leadership.

Unfortunately, though, this beginning September 5, 2022 has been clouded with despair, confusion, unpreparedness, in some instances, and an uncaring Ministry / Government who just doesn’t care about us, the ‘Moulders of the Nation.’

Our schools in some cases are still having construction works being carried out; others, the resources to perform our duties have not been made available (teaching / learning, cleaning) and worse with the new virus, Monkeypox, there are no systems to protect Us nor our Learners, yet you hear …… ‘Because we care!’ Many, many of us have continued to ask the question, “About who?”

How can the Government profess to care when up to the time of writing this missive, no teacher across this country is in receipt of their clothing allowance, an increase in salary, and the non-commissioning of the Teaching Service Commission?

Colleagues, we do what we do because of our love for children/ humanity, and because we have committed our energies to serving this nation, and for this Guyana’s right-thinking citizens are grateful.

Let me wish every one of you a productive first day and week and to remind you that the silver lining is just beyond but we would only get there if due diligence is employed. As a body, we will fight this battle together until victory is won.

Colleagues, you are blessed, and you are special. So, as you step out today and every other day, remember to focus on your health and safety even as you encourage others to do the same.  Do have an awesome day and cheers to a year of success.

The STRUGGLE continues.

God’s Blessings!
