Makida Quick – a 14-year-old student of Tucville Secondary – was killed in an accident on Sunday while riding her cycle in ‘E’ Field, Sophia.
According to the police, Quick, who resided in ‘D’ Field Sophia, was hit by a speeding motorcycle while she was riding on the main access road in ‘E’ Field, Sophia on Sunday at around 12:30hrs. At the time, the motorcycle – CK 7840 – was driven by 21-year-old Glenton Redman of Lot 1584 Section ‘E’ Field Sophia.
“…Makida was riding south along the eastern side of Section E Field Main Access Road whilst Glenton Redman was speeding in the said direction in a lying position on his motorcycle which he allegedly lost control of and collided with the teen,” the police said in a statement.
Upon impact, Quick was reportedly flung some distance in the air before falling into a nearby drain while Redman fell onto the road surface.
They were both picked up in an unconscious condition and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit where Quick was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary.
The motorcyclist – whom police suspect is not the holder of a provisional or driver’s licence – subsequently regained consciousness and is presently receiving medical attention under police guard.
Further investigations are in progress.
