The Guyana National Bureau of Standards’ (GNBS) Industrial Metrology and Testing (IMT) Laboratory is now accredited to the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 – General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

This accomplishment comes after the GNBS IMT Laboratory successfully underwent an assessment audit of its calibration services by an International Registrar. In a press release, GNBS said, the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 specifies the general requirements for the competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of laboratories. Compliance with the standard guarantees international acceptance of test results from accredited laboratories.

The GNBS IMT Laboratory was accredited for the calibration of mass, force and weighing devices, and non-automatic weighing instruments. The certificate which was issued on February 03, 2022, covers the calibration of weight and weight sets from 1g to 10kg and balances from 0.001g to 500g.

As such, stakeholders who use precision and analytical balances including manufacturers, medical and testing laboratories, miners, jewellers and others along with users of weight and weight sets, can confidently utilize the calibration services of the GNBS.

Meanwhile, the GNBS IMT Department is aggressively working to ensure that all its calibration services including Pressure, Temperature, Dimensional and testing of crude oil are further expanded to meet stakeholders needs and are added to the scope of Accreditation, in the shortest possible time. The laboratory was accredited by the Perry Johnson Accreditation Inc. The certificate is valid for two years pending assessment and recertification.
