Man behind social-media character “Mudwata” arrested

Keron Bruce, the man reportedly behind the social-media character ‘Mudwata,’ was arrested earlier on Friday on cyber-crime allegations.

According to the police, several pieces of electronic equipment were seized, and voice messages acquired. The police said when the recordings were analyzed, they matched the ‘Mudwata’ commentary often featured on YouTube.

According to the police, the arrest stemmed from a number of cyber bullying related complaints implicating persons who persons who are making publications on social media under the name ‘Mudwata.’

“As a result of this series of complaints, the Guyana Police Force was obliged under the provisions of the Cyber Crime Act 2018 to investigate the allegations. In the discharge of this statutory duty, persons were detained to assist the Police with those investigations,” the police said.

According to the police, upon the conclusion of the investigation, they will seek legal advice.

The arrest of Bruce comes days after Owner of The Big Smith News Watch offered a $1M award for anyone who can provide the identity of the social media character ‘Mudwata
