We cannot fight hate with hate

We have been blessed as a people to be born in a country of six different ethnicities. We cannot fight hate with hate. The Broomes Foundation propels the commandment of Jesus Christ: Love one another. In Guyana, the racial issues are bubbling over and can only lead to the destruction of the entire country.

The Broomes Foundation would like to appeal to all Guyanese in this extremely sensitive time. To the Henry Family, we empathise with the pain that you are experiencing. We mourn with you. We understand that we will never be able to dictate the way that a community grieves. Guyanese around the world are saddened, enraged, and frustrated; especially given the grotesque nature of the events that led to the demonstrations today.

To the Singh Family, we mourn with you. Though the circumstances that led to the death of your son are still unknown, NOTHING will ever be able to justify the death of an innocent young man. Just like in the case of Isaiah and Joel, no one should feel entitled to pass judgement over another. More importantly, the shedding of innocent blood soils and curses the very land we love so much. Let us work towards conversations to dispel hate. Our country can only grow and prosper if we recognize that we need each other. Put away race and politics and anything that would divide us. Let us not destroy ourselves. The Broomes Foundation is open to work with ALL who are committed to our motto: One People, One Nation, One Destiny.
