Residents of Glasgow Housing Scheme on the East Bank of Berbice who have for months experienced difficulty in getting into their village due to the dilapidated state of access bridges across the main canal, recently breathed a collective sigh of relief following the completion of a brand new bridge into the community by the Ministry of Public Works.
The new bridge which is the main bridge into the community is located at the northern end of the village.
A long standing resident Mrs Vilma Wilson said they welcomed the long awaited completion.
She noted though that a second access bridge at the southern end of the village remains in a deplorable state.
Mrs Wilson said that although the completion of this remaining bridge would finally solve all access problems, residents, especially those with motor vehicles, were happy that access from the northern end was now possible.
Meanwhile, prior to the completion of the new bridge, Chief Roads and Bridges Officer of the Ministry Mr Ron Rahaman had assured Village Voice that the Ministry planned to replace the southern bridge with a new bridge as well, thereby making the community finally easily accessible from both ends.
