The top five pupils of the Belladrum Primary School in the recent National Grade Six Assessments (NGSA) exams were last Tuesday awarded monetary prizes in recognition of their achievements, by US based Guyanese and former pupil of the school Dr Beverley Reynolds- David.

Dr. Reynolds-David is a member of the US based charitable organization the Guyana America Partnership.(GAP) which has been providing material support to schools and school children in West Coast Berbice in Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) for the past thirteen years or so.

The Belladrum Primary school NGSA award ceremony was held in the computer room of the school and was organized on her behalf by Mr Abraham David a resident of Belladrum Village and local member of the GAP. The pupils who were rewarded for good performance were: Woleta Glen 489 marks; Jeremiah Briggs-483; Mariah Wright 474; Ebony Batson 471 and Chelsea Hyderkhan 459.

The prizes comprised $10,000 GD for each child. During the brief awards ceremony, the money was handed over by Dr James Reynolds, a renowned US based paediatrician, himself a former pupil of the school, in the presence of parents and guardians of the children, the teachers who had contributed to the preparation of the children and Headmistress of the school Mrs Savitri Diaram.

Prior to handing over the awards Dr. James Reynolds, who is a cousin of the benefactor, told the pupils that he had attended Belladrum Secondary school in the days when Guyana was a colony and he had never had the luxury of wearing a pair of shoes or even yatching boots to go to school.

“I went to school barefooted but I was intent on making something of myself and I did.” He urged them to never stop dreaming about lofty goals and to never stop working hard to achieve those goals and to reach their full potential in their chosen fields of endeavor.

He urged them: “Never give up on yourselves.” The HM staffers and beneficiaries thanked Dr. Reynolds David for her generous donation which they said would encourage the youths to continue to strive towards excellence in their life’s endeavors.
