On Thursday, October 14, 2021, the CXC will announce the results of the CSEC and CAPE examinations at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre.

On Tuesday, the CXC team met with the Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and officers of the Ministry of Education. The team comprised Registrar and CEO, Dr. Wayne Wesley; Director of Operations Examination Services, Dr. Nicole Manning and Corporate Communications Manager, Mr. Richard Rose.

Minister Manickchand said that she is pleased with the partnership shared between the Ministry and CXC,  particularly in the area of administering and managing the region’s major examinations — CSEC and CAPE.

Then, on Friday, October 15, 2021, the Ministry of Education will announce the results of the 2021 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) at the National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD).

Though the NGSA is a local examination, the Ministry of Education has contracted CXC to manage the setting of the examination, marking, grading, verification and review processes.

Minister Manickchand said that Guyana is in the process of reviewing its curriculum and will require the assistance of the examination body to help children benefit from more practical learning especially at the primary level.

Dr. Wesley said that the Council will be ready to offer the required assistance and said that assessments can be designed to provide increased focus on the assessment of the competencies the skillset children are expected to demonstrate.

The 2021 NGSA was written on August 4th and 5th. The examination was prepared based on topics up to the Grade Five level contained in the consolidated curriculum which was prepared by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Canadian experts.

The 2022 examination will be based on the same consolidated curriculum and is scheduled to be written on Wednesday, July 6th, 2022 and Thursday, July 7, 2022.

Similar to what obtained for the 2021 NGSA, CXC will prepare the 2022 examination, supervise its administration, mark the scripts, conduct quality checks and will also conduct consequential reviews if any are requested.

“The Council’s involvement in some of these areas was done for the first time this year and will continue in the years to come to offer age-appropriate examinations that are fairly and transparently marked and that bear the CXC mark of integrity for which the examining body is renowned across the world,” the Ministry has stated.
