A Nismes, West Bank Demerara resident was robbed some $4.4M by two men just before midnight Monday.
Police in a release said that the victim is a Detector Operator working at Chi Chi Backdam, Upper Mazaruni River. He arrived from the said backdam about two months ago with a large sum of money which he normally keeps at home. On Monday night about 22:30hrs the victim was lying on a chair in the living room watching television when he fell asleep and about 23:50hrs on the said date he awoke on the said chair and saw an identifiable male entering the said living room door with what appeared to be a nickle hand gun which he pointed at him. The suspect told the victim not to move and to keep quiet and asked him to hand over the money to him. He then ordered him to lie face downwards.

The victim claimed that as he was about to turn his face down, the second suspect whose face was covered with white cloth and was also armed with a black hand gun entered the living room and placed a jersey on his head, tied his feet and hands to the back. The victim further reported that after constant demands and threats with the hand gun for the money he became fearful for his life and pointed to the location where the money was kept.
