…police hold three men for questioning
A 23-year-old Guyanese born, Canadian citizen, has been missing from his Lot 42 Section A, #69 Village residence for the past two days and police have arrested three men for questioning over his disappearance.
While a search is still on for the young man Nicholas Jaipaul, family members are fearing the worst after receiving a phone call on Monday morning from an unknown caller who indicated that Jaipaul is with them and they subsequently ended the call. During a visit to Jaipaul’s home, his grandfather Ramkisson Jaipaul told Village Voice that he was having a conversation with his grandson on Sunday evening when the power went out. However, he said he got up and gave Nicolas a lamp before heading to bed as it was getting late. He further stated that on Monday Nicholas was supposed to attend his other grandfather’s birthday party at # 54 Village but unfortunately, he is nowhere to be found. “The day my grandson went missing he was supposed to go to his other grandfather, he packed his bags and everything is still in the room, nothing is missing”.
Ramkisson said on Monday morning he woke up to a strange call and was asked by the caller where Nicholas was. He said the person responded by saying Nicholas is upstairs sleeping. The caller then indicated to him that Nicholas is not sleeping and that they have him. “ I got so scared after receiving the call, so I called two girls that work with me to come over and go check for him since I could not find the energy to walk up the stairs. They went upstairs and firstly checked Nicholas’s room and didn’t see him after which they checked the entire house but he was nowhere to be seen”.
The man said he made other calls to his grandson’s other grandfather at # 54 Village but was told that he was not there either. Ramkisson is pleading with the person or persons who may have his grandson to return him safely. “I miss him so much, I love him, he’s from Canada and he came to be with me since it’s me alone. He’s such a wonderful boy, so kind and so nice I never had any problems with him”.
Nicholas arrived in Guyana on January 20th, but has since been unable to return to Canada due to the stringent travel restrictions that were placed on the borders by the Health Authority following the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in Guyana. Thus far, Commander, Calvin Brutus said they are unable to ascertain whether the incident should be treated as a kidnapping since there is not much supporting details on the alleged caller and they are still yet not sure if the said caller has set out a ransom.
