Banks DIH Limited has joined national efforts to provide much needed relief to the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines hard hit by the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.

In a statement on Wednesday, the beverage company disclosed that it has contributed 10,000 lbs. of Triskits crackers and 2,400 cases of Tropical Mist and Rain Forest Waters in response to pleas by the country’s Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and regional governments for assistance to residents affected by the natural disaster.

Mr. Carlton Joao, Sales and Marketing Executive said that some of the items were shipped to St. Vincent earlier this week while a second shipment is being prepared to be sent to the Island.

Banks DIH Limited has been working closely with the Private Sector Commission, Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and other government agencies in mobilizing much needed aid for the Caribbean Island.

Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), another beverage company, is also providing aid to the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

DDL said it will send a total of 10,000 cases of bottled 20oz Diamond Mineral Water, as well as 500 cases of 1.14 litres alcohol-based Environ Sanitising Cleaner to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Already, the CDC has received 2,000 cases of water and 500 cases of Environ from DDL. The items are being shipped to the island. The remaining cases of water will be shipped in the coming days.

This humanitarian aid is valued at GYD 13.3 million.
A UNICEF report has indicated that between 16,000 and 20,000 people, including children, have been evacuated due to the eruption of La Soufriere, last Friday, April 9, 2021. A total of 62 shelters were opened on the island, hosting at least 3,200 people.
