Police in Regional Division No.5, Mahaica – Berbice are working to fostering stronger ties with the community through an ongoing school sponsorship programme and other voluntary activities.
Recently, 15-year-old Delicia Somersall, a student of Ash Educational Trust who is expected to sit the Caribbean Examinations Council Exam (CSEC( in May 2021, was the recipient of a ‘Student Benefit’ initiative facilitated and administered by the Division.
As such, she sponsored throughout her secondary school life which the Division believes is a true testimony to the force’s dedication and longstanding commitment to service.
According to a press release, the teen who is dubbed as “promising” is slated to write 11 subjects and is enthused and ready to succeed. Meanwhile, the Divisional Commander and all other ranks of Regional Division No.5 also remain committed to serving the citizens of the Region.
Since taking over on October 9, 2020, Commander Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon who recently proceeded on annualised vacation leave, has vigorously endeavoured to develop and maintain closer ties between the police and the communities in which they operate.
As a result, a series of station visits, hamper donations, traffic outreach programmes, COVID-19 awareness, and enforcement initiatives, as well as the resuscitation and creation of several youth groups, have been executed in the Division over the last five months.
