Bandits, rob, beat Craig man

Police are investigating an alleged robbery under arms committed on 45-year-old Eyon Campbell of Buzz Bee Dam, Craig, East Bank Demerara.

The incident occurred on Saturday and was executed by three assailants armed with a handgun and cutlasses, police said in a press release. The victim was relieved of $350,000 cash, one DVD player, one 42-inch Sony television and one black Samsung J2 Core cellphone valued $35,000.  Enquires disclosed that the victim lives alone in a flat concrete structure in a fenced yard and on Friday about 21:00 hours, the victim secured his home by its means provided and subsequently retired to bed.  About 02:30 hours, he was awoken by footsteps in his bedroom and was subsequently confronted by the three assailants who demanded cash and valuables.

The victim immediately handed over his money mentioned, but they demanded further cash which the victim indicated he did not have. One of the armed assailants then dealt the victim a chop to his head and several lashes about his body causing him to receive injuries. They further relieved him of the other articles mentioned and made good their escapes via a northern door, from where they gained entry into the house. The victim thereafter proceeded to the Woodlands Hospital where he sought medical treatment for his injuries and was subsequently discharged.

A report was lodged and ranks from Golden Grove Police Station visited the scene.

Investigations are in progress.
