Dear Editor

The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) condemns the acts of assault, violence, and disrespect, experienced by Hon. Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, MP, at the hands of Kwame McCoy and by extension the PPP/C in Guyana’s Parliament on Wednesday 3rd March 2021.

The Speaker’s failure to condemn or even acknowledge that a charge of assault made by A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) female Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarabo-Halley against the PPP/C Minister of Government Kwame McCoy is most disgusting and shows clear bias.

The PNCR believes Guyana has become unsafe for women. We believe that the silence of the PPP/C administration has encouraged the CEO of Linden Hospital Complex, Rudy Small to disrespect the nurses through his loose and disparaging comments. Mr. McCoy’s assault on the Hon. MP is a clear sign that the National Assembly is unsafe for women. Female and Male Ministers of the PPP/C administration have refused to acknowledge that Guyana is unsafe for women.

The PNCR, therefore, calls on all Guyanese, as well as International and Local Organisations to condemn these acts of violence against Guyanese women and the silence and lack of representation for women by the PPP/C administration.

Regards

Amna Ally,

General Secretary, PNCR
