The West Indies men’s team began its three-match ODI series against India with a heavy defeat in Thiruvananthapuram.
India chased West Indies’ 295-7 with 50 balls to spare. Virat Kohli scored 139 not out, while Shubman Gill made 110, as India reached 300-2.
The match nevertheless produced a landmark Caribbean cricket moment: Kohli became only the second player in history to reach 15,000 ODI runs, joining Sachin Tendulkar.
West Indies had encouraging contributions from Justin Greaves, who made his maiden ODI century, but their total proved insufficient against India’s chase.
The teams are playing three ODIs followed by five T20Is as part of West Indies’ preparations for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
