Consumers are being urged to check their cupboards and freezers after two food recalls in the United States involving a granola product and popular Outshine Fruit Bars over separate contamination concerns.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recalls in August, with one product potentially contaminated with Salmonella and the other potentially containing pieces of glass.
The first recall involves Lacnola Lactation Granola, an 8-ounce product manufactured by The Hampton Grocer Inc. The product was distributed nationwide in the United States through mail orders and online retailers, including Amazon, between October 21, 2025, and August 12, 2026.
The recalled granola comes in a pink stand-up pouch bearing UPC 850035324554. Consumers should check for lot codes HGLC-102125, with an expiration date of October 21, 2026, and HGLC-021326, expiring February 13, 2027.
The company initiated the recall after an ingredient supplier notified it that a sample had tested positive for Salmonella. The recalled granola contains organic moringa powder supplied by the affected company.
No illnesses had been reported in connection with the granola when the recall was announced. Production has been suspended while the company and FDA investigate the potential source of the contamination.
Salmonella infection can cause diarrhoea, fever, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain and can sometimes lead to serious illness, particularly among young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
The second recall involves select Outshine Fruit Bars, manufactured by Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream Inc., after reports that some products may contain glass fragments.
Announced on August 18, the recall affects specific batches of Outshine Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine and Black Cherry 6-count, 2.5-ounce fruit bars, along with the 24-count 2.5-ounce Variety Pack. The affected products were distributed to retailers nationwide in the United States.
The company said no illnesses or injuries had been reported when the recall was announced.
Consumers are advised to check the batch code and best-before information printed on the bottom of the packaging. Because numerous batch codes are included in the recall, consumers should compare their products directly with the FDA’s official recall notice rather than assume that all Outshine products are affected.
Anyone with a recalled Outshine product should not consume it and should either discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers who have the recalled Lacnola granola should likewise dispose of the product and contact the retailer for a refund.
The recalls may also be relevant to consumers in Guyana who purchase imported food products online or from retailers carrying U.S. goods. Imported products can remain in circulation outside the country where a recall was issued, making it important for consumers to check product labels, lot codes and expiration dates before consumption.
Consumers should rely on official recall notices for the latest information as the FDA continues to update its food-safety database.
