Dear Editor,

I have not seen published opinion surveys about governance or commentaries on national issues from NACTA’s Dr. Vishnu Bisram. And I have not seen his views on the sinking of the MV Barima or on issues inundating the press. Why is his pen silent? Dr Bisram is well respected nationally and among the diplomatic corps and the diaspora for his credibility and integrity and for his courageous, frank, honest, objective, penetrating commentaries and for publications of findings of polls. He has been the only one doing opinion polls since the 1990s. His polls inform the public about support for government. And his profound views and insightful analyses carry weight and influence national opinions.

Gouveia’s Attack on MV Barima Captain Is ‘Appalling’

Dr. Bisram spends considerable amount of time in Guyana and interacts with the public.  I saw him a couple weeks ago in Georgetown. I will like to ask the highly acclaimed and celebrated pollster, does he or does the public endorse the policies of the government, its public face on national issues like the 150 acres farm, corruption, MV Barima, among others? Everywhere I went, people complained about what they describe as disastrous policies of the government and of the President. The President and his government are very unpopular. Can Dr Bisram tell us, his own views and or that of the nation because he was doing a survey when I met him, whether the people approve of the conduct of the President, his explanation of the farm, his character, his image, governance in Guyana in recent months, handling of the MV Barima tragedy, raising the ship from the ocean floor, which party or Presidential candidate will win if an election is called now, among other contemporary issues?

Yours truly,

Feroze Mohamed
