According to the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Team Guyana’s athletics contingent has completed its preparations in Santo Domingo and is set to begin competition on Monday.
“Team Guyana’s athletics squad has arrived in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and is ready to begin its campaign at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games,” the GOA announced on social media.
Representing Guyana on the track and field are Javonna Cornette, Anisha Gibbons, Deshana Skeete, Charissa December, Lloyd McCurdy, and Tonya Rawlins.
The association described the athletes as “a talented group of athletes eager to test themselves against the region’s best.”
Ahead of the start of competition, the team completed its final training sessions and acclimatisation.
“The team has completed its final training sessions and acclimatization, with spirits high as they prepare to proudly wear the Guyana colours on one of the Caribbean’s biggest sporting stages,” the GOA said.
The association also urged Guyanese to rally behind the athletes as they pursue personal bests, national pride and podium finishes.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s women’s 3×3 basketball team is on the verge of advancing to the knockout stage after opening its campaign with an impressive 15-10 victory over Jamaica.
The win has positioned the national side favourably ahead of a decisive Pool D encounter against tournament hosts, the Dominican Republic.
“Fresh off a commanding 15–10 victory over Jamaica, Guyana’s women’s 3×3 basketball team now turns its attention to a crucial showdown against the host nation, the Dominican Republic, in its final Pool D encounter,” the GOA said.
Guyana’s squad comprises Ruth Adams, Anaya Clemons, DeAngelique Waithe and Jamaicy Ogle, who require another victory to secure qualification for the knockout round and strengthen their medal aspirations.
“The impressive opening victory has placed Ruth Adams, Anaya Clemons, DeAngelique Waithe, and Jamaicy Ogle in an excellent position as they seek another win to secure qualification for the knockout round and strengthen their bid for a CAC Games medal,” the association stated.
The GOA praised the team’s performances so far, noting that the players have shown “tremendous composure, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament” and expressed confidence they would carry that momentum into the crucial clash with the Dominican Republic.
As Guyana continues its quest for success at the regional multi-sport event, the athletics team will officially begin its campaign on Monday, while the women’s 3×3 basketball team looks to book its place in the knockout stage with a victory over the host nation.
