Cricket West Indies (CWI) today paid tribute to Charles “Charlie” Davis, the former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies cricketer who recently passed away at the age of 82.

Hailing from Port-of-Spain, the capital of the Twin Island Republic, Davis was a solid right-hand middle-order batsman who represented the region with pride in the late 1960’s and early 70’s.

In an international career that saw him play 15 Tests, he amassed 1,301 runs with four (4) half-centuries and four (4) centuries, with his maiden ton coming at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in his third appearance for the West Indies. His consistency at the crease is evidenced by his career average of 54.20 with a high score of 183.

In honour of his life, legacy and contribution to West Indies cricket, the West Indies Senior Men’s Test team wore black armbands on day 3 of the ongoing first test match against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

CWI extends deepest condolences to the family of this Caribbean cricketing pioneer and hero.  (windiescricket)
